Swallowtail Forest Farm
At Swallowtail Forest Farm, we have a highly diversified orchard where we grow and produce Pawpaws, Chestnuts, Persimmons, and a number of other fruit, cut flower and vegetable crops. We utilize agroforestry practices and ecological farming principles in our operation.
what we
grow
Garlic
We grow garlic as a focal vegetable crop. Generally, our garlic is planted within our existing orchards and tree crop production areas using the agroforestry practice of alley cropping.
Pawpaws, Chestnuts, and Persimmons
The primary crops we cultivate in our highly diversified orchards are Pawpaws, Chestnuts, and Persimmons. We also grow species such as Black Locust for timber and Oak species for shiitake bolt production.
Log-Grown Mushrooms
We grow shiitake mushrooms on logs underneath the shade of the forest canopy. Our woodland mushroom operation is integrated into the long term maintenance and sustainable management of the forest.
